The Trimont Area Wind Farm is widely known as a model for community-based wind energy development. Farming continues around the wind turbine towers at the project, which was a finalist for the 2006 Minnesota Environmental Initiative awards. The project employs 67 General Electric turbines, generating enough energy to serve about 29,000 households.
BEF uses the Green-e Climate's "Protocol for Renewable Energy" to certify this project for use in Green-e Climate certified Wind Green Tags and Wind & Solar Green Tags, and to calculate the reduced greenhouse gas emissions caused by this project. This project passed the following additionality tests required by Protocol for Renewable Energy: (1) Performance and Technology Test, (2) Timing Test, and (3) Legal and Regulatory Test. |
