RENEWABLE ENERGY PROGRAMS
Redmond High School celebrates the completion of a solar electric power system funded by Puget Sound Energy

More than 100 students, faculty, and staff from Redmond High School attended the school’s celebration of a 1.1 kilowatt solar electric power system on May 3, 2006. The solar project was funded by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) and installed with the help of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF). The photovoltaic system installation represents PSE’s ongoing efforts to promote the use and awareness of renewable energy technologies. PSE also funded an interactive flash-animated kiosk in the school’s main hallway that is designed to educate the students and faculty about solar electricity generation.

The solar project enhances the school’s well-deserved reputation as a leader in efficiency and sustainable design. The photovoltaic system complements the host of existing conservation measures, such as advanced lighting sensors and ground-source heat pumps, already incorporated into the school.

To view the live data from the photovoltaic system and to see a Flash-animated depiction of how the photovoltaic system works visit: view2.fatspaniel.net/FST/Portal/BurkeElectric/RedmondHS/flash/index.swf.

WATERSHED PROGRAMS

BEF’s Model Watershed Restoration Project Reviewed by Independent Science Team

In May of 2006 BEF submitted its Benewah Creek Model Watershed Restoration project for review by an independent team of watershed and fisheries scientists. Located in northern Idaho’s Coeur d’Alene basin, Benewah Creek is the site of BEF’s latest innovative 10-year watershed restoration investment.

An independent team of Ph.D. scientists routinely reviews each of BEF’s 10-year watershed restoration projects. Regular review of the Benewah Creek project will allow BEF and its partners to continually improve the efficacy of the project and verify that BEF and its partners are on track to restore stream habitat and healthy populations of native trout.

FOUNDATION UPDATE
Stop Global Warming Virtual March

Join BEF in this non-political effort that's bringing Americans together to address global warming. Supported by a wide array of prominent and concerned citizens, the Stop Global Warming Virtual March will move across the United States via the Internet from one town to the next, highlighting the harmful effects of global warming along with practical solutions.

BEF is marching because we believe that it’s within our power to drastically alter the course of destruction caused by climate instability from the use of greenhouse gases. Now is the time to rely on non-polluting energy technologies like solar and wind power for a healthier and sustainable energy future.

We encourage all of our friends to join us in the march at: www.stopglobalwarming.org/sgw_partner.asp?536214.
