BEF Sponsors Its First Ultra-Marathon Athlete |
Bonneville
Environmental Foundation is proud to sponsor Justin Angle, our very
first carbon neutral athlete. Justin has been competing in endurance
sports for the last 15 years. After moving to Seattle in 2003, Justin
decided to focus exclusively on long distance running. Since then, he
has completed over 30 ultra-marathons, with 5 wins and
consistent top-10 finishes.
Justin is proud to serve as an ambassador for organizations committed
to quality, community, and the environment. Many athletes struggle with
their consumption of jet fuel and gasoline as they travel to each
event. Justin is happy to
spread the Race Green message across the country to help encourage more athletes to offset their travel with Green Tags.

BEF's Watershed Program Profiled in Ecological Restoration Journal |
BEF published an article in the March 2007 issue of Ecological
Restoration
that outlines the Foundation's rationale for developing and
implementing a long-term and monitoring-intensive watershed restoration
funding program. The article reflects BEF's long-standing commitment to
establish an
effective and accountable strategy that will sustain comprehensive
watershed restoration programs and produce measurable improvements to
stream habitat, water quality, and native fish species.
BEF's ongoing publication of articles in journals such as Ecological Restoration and Fisheries provides further evidence that the Foundation's long-term restoration and monitoring strategies are gaining acceptance as a
preferred method to support effective community-based watershed restoration.

Puget Sound Energy Brings Solar 4R Schools Program to Olympia, WA School |
Puget
Sound Energy (PSE) and BEF have partnered to introduce solar
power to Washington Middle School in Olympia, Washington. This
installation, the fourth in a series of demonstration projects funded
by PSE, showcases solar technology as part of the utility's ongoing
efforts to raise awareness of
renewable energy. The first school district in Thurston County to
participate in the program, Washington Middle School is well prepared
to utilize the renewable energy learning materials provided as part of
the project. Already a member of
the Washington Sustainable Schools Pilot Program, the school has
previously made significant energy efficiency investments and has even
reported energy consumption metrics to the Washington State
Legislature. For more information about
this project, visit

Chelan County Leads Washington State in Solar Power Development |
An
exciting renewable energy benchmark was reached this past year in
Chelan
County, Washington. Through revenues generated from Chelan County PUD's
award-winning renewable energy program SNAP (Sustainable Natural
Alternative Power), and funding from BEF and the Alcoa Community Solar
Endowment, Chelan County PUD
completed the installation of solar power arrays at 29 schools and
seven non-profit agencies in Chelan County in 2006. The final three
systems installed were the Stehekin School, the YMCA Camp at Lake
Wenatchee, and the Woods House Music
Conservatory. BEF's 2002 investment in the Chelan County PUD's
inaugural SNAP project at Wenatchee Valley College paid off by
generating over $30,000 of revenue to BEF, which BEF reinvested into
the 2006 Chelan County PUD SNAP program
solar installations. BEF funds also provided the on-line metering and
monitoring equipment for these recent solar projects. BEF congratulates
Chelan County PUD and its solar champion, Jim White, for leading
Washington State in solar energy
development. To learn more about these projects, please visit Chelan
County PUD's website:
