Bonneville Environmental Foundation Goes Hollywood!
The National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, organizer of the annual Academy Awards® presentation, purchased enough Green Tags from Bonneville Environmental Foundation to offset the carbon footprint of this year's Academy Awards telecast, Governor's Ball, Road to the Oscars® Pre-Show, and the Red Carpet Event.

The combined purchase of 178 Green Tags supports the generation of 178,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity from clean, renewable energy projects, enough to power sixteen average U.S. homes for a full year. By supporting this much carbon-free energy, the Academy Awards® avoids nearly 250,000 pounds of climate-altering greenhouse gas emissions.

BEF Commits to Restoring the Entiat River Valley in Central Washington
In February, BEF marked a major achievement by launching its fifth Model Watershed restoration program. Located in central Washington's Entiat River valley, BEF's latest Model Watershed represents a commitment by BEF, the Chelan County Conservation District, and an Entiat Watershed Stakeholder Group (EWPU) to implement a comprehensive, 10-year strategy to restore stream habitat, native salmon, and water quality throughout the entire Entiat River valley. With a rigorous monitoring and evaluation strategy and BEF's long-term commitment of support, BEF and its local Entiat partners expect to track restoration progress, adjust future strategies according to measured results, and provide clear evidence of ecological improvement over a full 10-year period.
BEF and City of Ellensburg, WA Install First "Community Solar" Project in the U.S.
The 36 kW solar-electric system that sits just off of Highway 90 in Ellensburg, WA piques the interest of nearly every passing driver. It may also represent the future of renewable energy project finance in the United States. The groundbreaking "community solar" project, devised by BEF and the City of Ellensburg, allows local individuals and businesses to make essential financial contributions to the project. In return, these contributors receive direct credits on their electricity bills for the green power produced by the system. The benefits that result from this unique financial model significantly reduce the cost of solar electricity. Just as importantly, because Ellensburg organizes the financial and technical details of project installation and maintenance, participation does not place an undue burden on the local citizens. To learn more about the project, and to view the live data from the system, visit www.b-e-f.org/renewables/ellensburg.shtm .
