BONNEVILLE ENVIRONMENTAL FOUNDATION TO DELIVER RECORD AMOUNT OF WIND ENERGY TO LEADING SOY MANUFACTURER.

White Wave, Inc., Maker of Silk® Soy Milk Becomes the Largest American Company to Purchase Wind Power Credits Equal to 100% of Electricity Used in Manufacturing and Operations.

February 27, 2003 (Portland, OR) Portland's non-profit Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) announced today its largest sale to date of Green Tags (also know as Tradable Renewable Energy Credits) to White Wave, Inc., the country's largest soy products manufacturer. At the contract minimum of 55,000 megawatt-hours worth of credits over three years, the commitment replaces the electrical power used in all of White Wave's operations with clean, sustainable wind energy.

White Wave's substantial purchase of Green Tags will result in an increased percentage of wind power in the national grid and a corresponding reduction in the combustion of coal and natural gas. According to the EPA's Energy and Emissions Reduction Equivalents calculation, this purchase of wind generation will save over 45,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions (at the contract minimum) over three years - the emissions offset value of operating some 31 utility-scale wind turbines for a year or of taking over 9,000 cars off the road for one year.

"We are thrilled to have White Wave as our newest partner in supporting a growing renewable energy industry," said BEF President Angus Duncan. "A commitment of this magnitude sends a clear message that corporate social responsibility is key to good environmental outcomes. It also means that all of White Wave's products are now made with the equivalent of 100% renewable energy. Consumers may now enjoy these products with confidence that they are produced while meeting the highest environmental standards for energy available today."

"White Wave has always been committed to socially responsible and environmentally sustainable business practices," says Steve Demos, company founder and president. "We have previously demonstrated this through our 25-year devotion to the processing of non-genetically modified, organically raised soybeans. Today our decision to purchase wind energy is another legitimate step in creating a business model that is both profitable and environmentally sound."

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit organization, BEF's revenues fund its mission to development additional renewable energy resources and support watershed restoration projects. To date, these revenues have supported the development of some 500 megawatts of wind energy as well as the installation of more than 130 kilowatts of new solar photovoltaic generation. Over $650,000 in BEF funding has gone to support 17 watershed restoration projects.

White Wave is also encouraging its consumers to purchase wind energy. Consumers can visit www.SilkIsSoy.com to learn more about wind energy and sign up to purchase wind energy credits for home use.

White Wave is providing wind energy information to consumers as a public service and has no financial connection to any wind energy sign-up initiative.

About Green Tags
Also known as Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) or Tradable Renewable Energy Credits (TRECs), BEF's Green Tags represent the environmental benefits that occur when renewable energy replaces energy produced from burning fossil fuels on the power grid. The result is a corresponding savings in greenhouse gases (primarily carbon dioxide).

BEF's Green Tags are Green-e certified by the Center for Resource Solutions - www.greene.org and designated Climate Cool by the Climate Neutral Network as a net zero impact on the climate - www.climateneutral.com. New renewable energy resources that produce BEF's Green Tags are certified by the Natural Resources Defense Council, Renewable Northwest Project and the Northwest Energy Coalition.

About BEF
The Bonneville Environmental Foundation, a non-profit organization, was established in 1998 to further the development and use of new renewable energy resources. Through revenues generated from the sales of green power products, BEF funds projects that restore damaged watersheds and support new renewable energy projects from solar, wind and bio-mass. BEF pioneered the sale of Green Tags in 1999 and has helped establish national standards for certification and trading. Created by regional environmental groups and the Bonneville Power Administration, the Foundation operates collaboratively but independent of both. Visit online at www.B-E-F.org
