Frontier Natural Products Co-op Greens Energy Use

Manufacturer of leading natural and organic brands Frontier™, Aura Cacia® and
Simply Organic® offsets all energy used for its operations with renewable energy

Norway, Iowa (February 1, 2007) – Frontier Natural Products Co-op, a leading U.S. manufacturer and marketer of natural and organic products, announced today that it has purchased enough Green-e certified Green Tags from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation to equal 100 percent of the energy used at its Iowa and Colorado facilities.

This purchase is the most recent of many sustainability initiatives the company has undertaken during its 30-year history. An early supporter of organic products, Frontier has supported and established organic growers throughout the world. The company also seeks out Fair Trade Certified™ suppliers and has established Well Earth, its own sustainability certification program for many of its other botanical products. Frontier has incorporated energy-efficient technology into the design of all its facilities over the years, culminating in its recent "cool-roof" warehouse addition that features high-efficiency heating and cooling systems and energy-saving lighting design with T5 fluorescent bulbs and motion detectors. The purchase of Green Tags from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation is one more example of the company's emphasis on sustainability.

"Sustainability drives our decision-making process at Frontier. As a natural products industry leader, we are proud to set a responsible example," said Kathy Larson, Vice President of Sustainability and Education for Frontier Natural Products Co-op. "Offsetting our environmental footprint with Green Tags from wind and solar power is an ideal extension of our commitment to sustainability."

In addition to greening the company's own energy usage, Frontier is offering an incentive for others to take part in supporting climate-neutral sources of energy. Consumers can purchase BEF Green Tags to offset the environmental impacts of the energy they use in their homes and for commuting. With each Green Tag purchase of $120 or more, customers receive a complimentary Frontier Natural Products Kit with products from the popular natural brands Frontier, Simply Organic and Aura Cacia. This special offer is available thorough the Frontier web site (www.frontiercoop.com) by clicking on the Green Tag logo. Visitors can then use BEF's carbon calculator to learn how many Green Tags it takes to offset their energy use and be eligible for the free gifts with their purchase.

"Frontier's business, its employees, and its customers are enriched by the company's commitment to sustainability," said Tom Starrs, vice president of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. "The company's commitment to buying Green Tags is another manifestation of that commitment – one that helps to promote a clean and sustainable energy future."

BEF Green Tags, also called renewable energy credits, offset the global warming pollution impacts of conventional electricity generation, air and ground travel. Green Tags are created when renewable energy sources – such as solar and wind power – are substituted for energy traditionally generated by burning fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas. All of BEF's Green Tag products are independently certified by Green-e® as sourced from 100 percent new renewable energy projects. As a non-profit foundation, BEF commits all of the net revenues from its Green Tag programs to support its mission.
