BONNEVILLE ENVIRONMENTAL FOUNDATION ENDORSED BY THE CLIMATE NEUTRAL NETWORK

January 31,2002 (Washington, D.C.) - The Climate Neutral Network announced today its endorsement of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation Green Tags product and the BEF online calculator. In addition, BEF was certified as a Climate Cool business for offsetting 100% of its Greenhouse Gas emissions with non-polluting, renewable energy.

The BEF Green Tags product was endorsed by The Network as a solution for businesses and others, no matter where they are located, to offset emissions of carbon dioxide and the gases that contribute to global climate change. BEF Green Tags come from new wind and solar energy. The net revenue generated from selling Green Tags is reinvested in additional new renewable energy resources.

"Meeting the strict requirements for endorsement by The Network is a very important achievement for the Foundation," said Angus Duncan, BEF president. "And, we are pleased to announce that the first buyer of our newly certified Green Tags is the National Resources Defense Council. With this purchase of Green Tags, NRDC will offset the remaining CO2 emissions for its California office."

The Network also endorsed BEF's unique online calculator (www.GreenTagsUSA.org) as an effective method to help individuals and businesses determine greenhouse gas emissions from their electricity and heating fuel consumption, air and car travel. Users of the calculator have the option of offsetting particular activities, or their total lifestyle emissions, through a tax-deductible donation to BEF that will be used to purchase and retire Green Tags associated with non-polluting energy.

The Climate Neutral Network is an alliance of companies and other organizations committed to developing products and enterprises that eliminate their impact on the earth's climate. Operating as an independent, non-profit corporation, the Climate Neutral Network is supported by corporate and environmental advisors. The Network has certified leading companies, non-profits, government organizations, products and events.

In addition to BEF, The Network recognized Norm Thompson and the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 as Climate Cool in a ceremony held today.

"Climate Cool certification is one of the most scientific and rigorous methods available for organizations to prove they are taking an aggressive stand on climate change" said Sue Hall, executive director of the Climate Neutral Network. "Being certified Climate Cool is not only environmentally responsible, it's also a smart business decision."

The Bonneville Environmental Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 1998 to buy and sell green power, uses its revenues to develop new renewable energy facilities and watershed restoration projects.

In just three years, BEF has become an innovative leader in the development of the green power market nationally and in building the supply of green power and Green Tags. Created by regional environmental groups and the Bonneville Power Administration, the Foundation operates collaboratively, but independent of both.
