Summary of Bonneville Environmental Foundation Programs

The Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established in 1998 to restore watershed ecosystems and further the development and use of new renewable energy resources. Through revenues generated from the sales of green power products such as Green Tags, BEF funds projects that restore damaged watersheds and supports new renewable energy products from solar, wind and biomass. BEF pioneered the sale of Green Tags in 2000 and has helped establish national standards for certification and trading. Visit www.b-e-f.org or www.GreenTagsUSA.org to learn more about BEF or call (866) BEF-TAGS.

BEF’s Green Tag revenues support the Foundation’s three program areas including Renewable Energy Programs, Watershed restoration, and Public Education:

1. Renewable Energy Programs:
Green Tags: Sales of Green Tags support the replacement of traditional polluting energy technologies, such as fossil fuels, with clean solar and wind power. Visit www.GreenTagsUSA.org.

Renewable Energy Project Management: BEF strives to increase the visibility of clean, renewable, distributed energy generation technologies through education and community outreach. BEF's assistance may take the form of a grant, an equity position, or project management. BEF’s services include grant and logistical support for solar power projects, wind and solar cooperatives, and BEF’s Solar 4R Schools program. Visit www.solar4Rschools.org.

Renewable Energy Project Investment: Supports and develops large-scale community electricity projects. Visit www.b-e-f.org/renewables/.

2. Watershed Restoration Program
Since 1999, the Bonneville Environmental Foundation has been dedicated to restoring watershed ecosystems. We support community-based initiatives that improve water quality, restore habitat, and bolster native salmon and trout populations.

By applying rigorous project standards and supporting only long-term, 10-year and science-based restoration initiatives, we invest our resources in projects with the greatest potential to produce positive ecological improvements. Visit http://www.b-e-f.org/watersheds/index.shtm.

3. Public Education Program
BEF participates in national public research and education efforts on the topics of renewable energy and watershed restoration. These activities include both institutional commitments by BEF and individual activities by BEF staff.
